The P-40 served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II, fighting in Europe, throughout Asia, and in the deserts of North Africa. While the P-40B wasn't as maneuverable as the Japanese Mitsubishi Zero or as fast as the German Messerschmitt Bf109, it still proved to be a tough opponent. The pilots liked that they could often be brought home after serious damage and that they could be armed with six machine guns.
