Of the many Bf 109 types, the G-type has the highest production numbers. The Bf 109 G-4 was a unique subtype within the diverse early G-type series, from G-1 to G-4, some of which were used as photo-reconnaissance aircraft. Without cameras, it could be equipped with R1-3, R4 (drop type), R5 (MK 108 built-in gondola) or R6 (MG 151 built-in gondola) and was also used as a medium-range fighter.
