The G-527 "Water Buffalo" was an American water trailer used during World War II to supply soldiers with drinking water. The single-axle trailer held 250 US gallons, or approximately 946 liters, of water and was towed by various military vehicles such as the Chevrolet G506 or the GMC CCKW. Its shape and function earned it the nickname "Water Buffalo." The trailer featured a robust steel tank, leaf springs, and a hand pump with a hose for drawing water from natural sources. It saw service in nearly all theaters of operation for the US Army and was particularly indispensable for field supply in arid regions. Many examples remained in military and civilian use long after the war.
