A recoilless rifle built in the USA, developed and put into service in 1944.
A two-man team consisting of a loader and a gunner supported their comrades with "pocket" artillery fire. The weapon could be operated from the shoulder, a tripod, or even an M1917 machine gun mount. The M18 saw extensive use in the Korean War, and although already obsolete by that time, it was also used by the Vietnamese Army and successfully employed in jungle warfare against the communist PAVN.
