The F-5 fighter aircraft was a Chinese copy of the MiG-17.
It was manufactured in 1956 by the Chinese Shengyang Aircraft Company and used primarily for daytime dogfights.
Its maximum speed is 1145 km/h (Mach 0.99), its effective service ceiling is 16,000 m, and its armament is the same as that of the MiG-15.
In February 1958, Hu Chunsheng and Shu Jicheng of the PLA Air Force shot down the KMT's RB-57D reconnaissance aircraft from an altitude of 15,000 m, setting the world's first record for shooting down enemy aircraft in the stratosphere.
