The model was equipped with additional fuel tanks in the wings and external underwing stations, allowing it to carry 6,000-pound bombs and external fuel tanks.
Later production aircraft used the improved J57-P-21 engine.
An aerial refueling capability was also added to the C models.
The aerial refueling probe initially extended straight forward from the leading edge of the right wing.
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds operated the F-100C from 1956 to 1964.
