The M4A3E8, nicknamed "Easy Eight," received several upgrades that improved the tank's effectiveness.
The vehicle was equipped with the 76mm M1 high-velocity gun and a new horizontal stabilizer suspension system (HVSS), which provided smoother handling and higher speed.
The "Easy Eight" saw action in the final stages of the second phase of the war.
Lieutenant Colonel Creighton Abrams' tanks were nicknamed Thunderbolts.
He personally participated in combat and commanded them directly at the front.
