The Hawker Sea Hawk entered service with 806 Squadron at Bradley in 1953.
By 1955, the Sea Hawk's performance was already considered mediocre, which led to the installation of the more powerful Nene 103 engines with 5,200 pounds of thrust and its use as a ground attack aircraft, certified to carry external payloads—a role at which the Sea Hawk excelled.
A total of 434 Sea Hawks were built for the Royal Navy, the largest production run of any British naval jet fighter. The Sea Hawk remained in service with the Royal Navy until 1960, but the Sea Hawk's story doesn't end there.
The Sea Hawk was a major export success; the Indian Navy retired its last example in 1984.
The Sea Hawk FGA MK.100/101 were special versions for the Federal Republic of Germany.
Two versions were planned: the MK.100 fighter-bomber and the MK.101 foul-weather day fighter.
