On July 18, 1942, the Me 262 took off on its maiden flight. It was powered by two Jumo 004B engines, which gave it a top speed of 870 km/h and a service ceiling of 6,000 m.
Its service ceiling was 11,400 m and its range was 1,050 km. The standard armament consisted of four 30 mm MK 108 cannons in the nose.
In addition, twelve R4M rockets could be mounted on the wings.
