The Lockheed SR-71, with its impressive and unorthodox appearance, is the younger sister of the U-2 with the important difference that it is built to perform its tasks at MACH 3.5.
The U.S. Strategic Air Command has stated that the Blackbird still holds the world speed record.
It can fly over the United States in less than an hour.
The SR-71s were used over many countries around the world, flying over Cuba, China, Vietnam, the Middle East, etc., even in Okinawa, Thailand and the Philippines during times of international tension or local conflict.
