The C15TA was powered by a 4.4-liter GMC inline-six gasoline engine producing approximately 100 hp, transmitting power to all four wheels via a four-speed transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The vehicle achieved a top speed of around 65 km/h and possessed good off-road capabilities thanks to its robust CMP chassis. Armor plating - up to 14 mm thick at the front and 6 mm on the sides - protected the crew from small-arms fire and shrapnel. The interior accommodated two crew members and six to eight soldiers.
From 1944 onwards, the C15TA saw service primarily with British and Canadian units in Northwest Europe. It was used as a protected transport for personnel, ammunition, and supplies, distinguishing itself through reliability, ease of maintenance, and good off-road mobility. In addition to the standard model, specialized versions were produced, including an armored ambulance (CT15AA).
After World War II, numerous vehicles remained in service with various European armed forces, including those of Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Greece, and Portugal. Some remained in use as late as the 1960s. Today, the Chevrolet C15TA is considered one of the most distinctive Canadian-made armored wheeled vehicles; due to its relatively low production numbers, it is a sought-after vehicle for collectors and museums.
