The Scharnhorst from Airfix recreates one of the Kriegsmarine's most formidable ships. The battleship was constructed in the mid-1930s for the German Kriegsmarine and armed with nine 11-inch main guns. This made her an effective commerce raider. However she was outmatched by the more heavily armed battleships of the Royal Navy.
On 26th December 1943 Scharnhorst was sunk by HMS Duke of York during the Battle of the North Cape. This marked the end of one of the Kriegsmarine's most active vessels.
Released as part of the Airfix Vintage Classics range, this kit captures the ship's distinctive silhouette with its triple turret layout and commanding superstructure. It is an excellent addition to any collection of historic naval vessels.
