The ZIL-130 truck became one of the most popular trucks in the history of the Russian automotive industry. The first five trucks were built in 1962, and mass production ran at the Moscow plant from 1963 to 1994. During this time, over 3.3 million vehicles were manufactured. The truck was equipped with a V-shaped 8-cylinder carburetor engine with an output of 150 hp, power steering, and a three-seat cab. The truck was widely used in the national economy and in the military.

During the modernization of the ZIL-130-76 (produced since 1977), the chassis service life was increased to 300,000 km and the payload increased to 6 tons. In 1978, the aircraft received a new radiator grille and several other exterior changes, and in 1980, three position lights were installed on the cabin roof. The ZIL-130 was produced in this form until 1983.
