The Arado Ar 196 was the standard seaplane of the German Kriegsmarine and operated from battleships and cruisers. Over 500 examples were built between 1938 and 1944, proving particularly effective in reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare. The maneuverable aircraft offered its two-person crew excellent visibility and, thanks to its robust construction, could take off and land even in rough seas.
