The M24 Chaffee was delivered to American Army units starting in 1944 to provide them with a light tank on the battlefield that could replace the outdated M3/M5 Stuart.
The M24's configuration differed significantly from its predecessor, and its design proved highly effective, leading it to be considered one of the best light tanks ever built.
Agile, robust, and reliable, it was well armed for a "light tank" and featured a 75 mm M6 cannon with 48 rounds.
The tank's armament was supplemented by two 12.7 mm Browning machine guns.
It was also successfully used in close infantry support missions and reconnaissance operations. During the conflict, effective cooperation developed between M24 units and heavily armed armored vehicles, such as the Sherman in its various versions.
