In the years leading up to World War II, Opel was Germany's largest truck manufacturer. The name Blitz, coined in a competition, first appears on the new Opel truck presented in November 1930.
Between 1935 and 1944, more than 130,000 Blitz trucks and chassis were produced at the Opel plant in Brandenburg.
The Volkswagen Schwimmwagen was a four-wheel drive amphibious vehicle used extensively by the German armed forces during World War II.
It went into series production for the Wehrmacht in 1941 as the Type 166.
