It was used in large numbers on all fronts and was therefore considered the “workhorse” of the Wehrmacht.
Thanks to the stable frame, the robust system of rigid axles with leaf springs and the double wheels at the rear, the Opel Blitz was able to transport a payload of over 3 tons.
The 3600 cc. Engine was easy to maintain and produced 75 hp.
Thanks to its great flexibility, it was the platform for several special equipment and versions such as the vehicle. 385, the most common tanker truck in the German Air Force.
Thanks to its good off-road characteristics, the vehicle was also able to operate on emergency landing sites, such as those prevalent at wartime air bases in Africa and Russia.
The vehicle was equipped with a rear fuel tank with appropriate pumping system, a simplified cabin with a fabric roof, and a muffler with exhaust system that was repositioned to allow safe fueling of aircraft.
