The Panther had 16 plate-shaped wheels with a diameter of 86 centimeters rubber bandages on each side. These were arranged as eight nested double wheels, four in pairs with the “deep” sides facing outwards and four in pairs with the “deep” sides facing inwards, attached to the ends of the wheel hubs. The inner rollers had a protective ring to guard against the chain guide teeth. The wheels were mounted on swing arms which connected them to a damped double torsion bar suspension.

The main version of the wheel with 24 bolts was in production with the Ausf. A of the Panther tank from August 1943 and used on the Ausf.G and Ausf.F also.

The chassis was optimized for high off-road speeds and allowed a very high ground clearance of 54 cm. Due to strength problems, the swing arms were further developed during the production period and installed in various configurations.
