The first category is a fast mobile cruiser tank, designed not only for reconnaissance and patrol tasks, but also for forays deep into enemy territory.
The second category is armored infantry tanks, designed to operate in close cooperation with infantry during attacks.
The Tank, Cruiser, Mk. II (A10) can be divided into three variants according to its own armament.
The A10 MK. I was armed with a QF 2-pounder cannon and two water-cooled 0.33-inch Vickers machine guns.
The A10 MK. IA was armed with a QF 2-pounder cannon and two air-cooled BESA machine guns.
The A10 MK. IA CS was the close support version and had a 3.7-inch (94 mm) howitzer in the turret intended for infantry support.
Although the A10 tank was used in most early battles, such as in France, North Africa and Greece, the final production number was only 175 and was very quickly phased out when a new type of cruiser tank entered service.
