The Sd.Kfz.6 5t half-track vehicle was manufactured by Büssing-NAG and by Daimler-Benz. Between 1935 and 1943, 3,660 vehicles were built.
Originally designed as a towing vehicle for the 10.5cm leFH 18 howitzers and, the performance of the expensive Sd.Kfz.6 was not much better than that of the smaller Sd.Kfz.11 3t halftrack.
A total of nine vehicles were converted in early 1942 to accommodate the captured Soviet 76.2mm M1936 (F22) divisional gun in an armoured box body and designated as 7.62cm Pak 36(r) on 5t traction vehicles (nicknamed "Diana"). All vehicles were issued to the Panzerjägerabteilung 605 in North Africa.
