The Sd.Kfz. 250/3 was a lightly armored radio and command vehicle of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. It became particularly well-known as Erwin Rommel's personal command vehicle during the North African campaign. His vehicle was nicknamed "Greif" and served as the mobile command post for the German Afrika Korps.

The Sd.Kfz. 250/3 was based on the light half-track Sd.Kfz. 250 and was specially equipped for command and communications tasks. Unlike the regular transport versions, it featured powerful, long-range radios and distinctive frame or star antennas. This allowed commanders to communicate with subordinate units and higher command posts over considerable distances.

The vehicle was powered by a Maybach six-cylinder gasoline engine producing approximately 100 hp. The crew typically consisted of a driver, radio operators, and officers. The armor provided protection against small arms fire and shrapnel, but offered limited protection against heavy weapons. Thanks to its half-track drive, the vehicle combined excellent off-road capability with a high degree of maneuverability for its time.

Rommel frequently used the Sd.Kfz. 250/3 near the front lines to personally assess the situation and react quickly to changes. The vehicle's open design facilitated observation of the battlefield and communication with support vehicles. However, it also made the occupants vulnerable to gunfire and the elements.

The vehicle, known as the "Greif," is one of the most famous German command vehicles of the Second World War. It exemplifies Rommel's leadership style, characterized by high mobility, proximity to the front, and rapid decision-making. Due to its historical significance, the Sd.Kfz. 250/3 remains a popular model for military historians and model builders.
