The RSO/01 tracked tractor was a fully tracked vehicle modeled on Soviet tracked tractors for the Wehrmacht to overcome the difficulties of the challenging terrain on the Eastern Front. It helped secure supplies in difficult terrain and served combat units as a towing vehicle for anti-tank and infantry guns. It came with a closed driver's cab, which was replaced by a half-cab with a canvas cover in later vehicles. The RSO chassis also served as a mobile platform for the 7.5 cm PaK 40 or, with an improvised superstructure, as a kitchen wagon. Widened track attachments improved off-road capability in snow and difficult terrain.
