The German Panther medium tank (Pz.Kw. V or Sd.Kfz. 171) was developed by MAN as a response to the new Soviet medium and heavy tanks. Like the T-34, it featured particularly wide, symmetrical tracks. The characteristic feature of the early Panther track links is the grip strip, which is divided into three sections by cutouts. The first version of the tracks was used for the Ausf. D of the Panther tank until August 1943.
