It was a small vehicle, the front of which resembled a motorcycle and was characterized by a handlebar and a central wheel, and a rear equipped with a tracked structure with six wheels.
In addition to the driver, the Kettenkrad could transport two passengers or goods and ammunition.
Thanks to its water-cooled OHV in-line four-cylinder engine from Opel, which was also used in the Opel Olympia, it could reach a top speed of 70 km/h.
With its towing hook it could carry up to 450 kg of cargo, as well as medium-sized anti-tank guns. The Kettenkrad proved to be perfect for transporting loads and people on uneven terrain, such as in North Africa or the Russian steppes.
From 1944 it was used on runways to handle Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighters and Arado A-234 jet bombers.
