From 1976, the commercially sold Porsche Turbo RSR racing car was used in World Sports Car Championship races.
As it was to be raced in the Group 4 GT class and the 930 Turbo was its basis, it was called the 934. Its 2,993cc turbocharged boxer engine produced an impressive 485 hp and 62 kg/m of torque.
By May 1977, some fifty 934s had been produced, one of which went to the Max Moritz team and featured a striking orange livery to match the image of its main sponsor, German liquor manufacturer Jägermeister.
In the 1976 season, the Max Moritz team finished 4th in the International Manufacturers' Championship, with both cars showing great competitiveness throughout the season.
