The Type VII U-boats were the most frequently built German U-boats in World War II.
703 boats were built by the end of the war.
Between 1936 and 1940, 24 Type VIIB boats were built over the Type VIIA, with an additional 33 tons of fuel in external saddle tanks.
They allowed a range of 2500 nautical miles (4600 km) at 10 knots (19 km/h) when cruising surfaced.
