In this type compass, the author Hans Karr takes on the warships of the Third Reich, which are mostly neglected in usual publications: hospital, KdF cruise and living ships. During the two world wars, mostly converted passenger ships that were specially marked served as floating hospitals, which, however, often did not protect them from enemy fire. One of the most famous KdF cruise ships was the Wilhelm Gustloff. At the beginning of the war, ships of their kind served as troop transports and hospital ships. Housing ships were, after all, floating barracks.
