The US Navy and Marines currently operate around 3,700 aircraft. The planes, which are mostly carrier based, can take on all the "classic" military roles - from attack helicopters to reconnaissance planes, flying command posts, bombers and air superiority fighters. Legendary machines have been around since 1945, the F-4 Phantom, A-7 Corsair, E-2 Hawkeye, F-14 Tomcat, S-3 Viking or F / A-18 Hornet / Super Hornet are examples. Today, VTOL planes such as the F-35C or combat drones are increasingly being used. All aircrafts since 1945 will be the subject of this book in words and pictures.
