With the GTK Boxer RCH 155, the German defense industry is launching a highly mobile, next-generation artillery system. Developed by KNDS Deutschland (formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann), this system combines the modular platform of the GTK Boxer with the proven firepower of the 155mm/L52 cannon from the Panzerhaubitze 2000. The combination promises high firepower with maximum tactical flexibility – especially in highly mobile combat units.

The designation RCH stands for "Remote Controlled Howitzer," as the entire turret is operated unmanned. The system is controlled entirely from the protected vehicle cabin. Thus, the Boxer RCH 155 not only offers maximum safety for the crew but also a significantly reduced silhouette and reaction time. The turret is based on the AGM (Artillery Gun Module) artillery turret, which has already been used in test vehicles such as the Donar, but has now been systematically further developed.

The 155 mm cannon achieves ranges of up to 30 km with standard ammunition, and even over 50 km with long-range ammunition such as V-LAP. The rate of fire is 6–8 rounds per minute, and the automated loading system enables the RCH 155 to rapidly engage multiple targets using the MRSI (Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact) method. Thanks to the wheeled platform of the GTK Boxer, the system is strategically deployable, air-transportable (e.g., with an A400M), and highly mobile on both paved and unpaved roads.

The first vehicles are currently in production for the Bundeswehr, which is procuring a total of 18 systems with an option for more. They are scheduled to arrive in 2026 and will revolutionize fire support at the brigade level – not least as a precursor to the long-term Franco-German MGCS project. The Boxer RCH 155 is already considered one of the most advanced wheeled artillery systems in the world.
