The Mil Mi-10 (NATO codename: Rake) was a Soviet-designed heavy transport helicopter and flying crane with a semi-monocoque construction made entirely of metal and a fixed four-legged landing gear in the classic configuration with a main rotor and tail rotor mounted on a single boom. It was powered by two DA-25 turbine engines, each rated at 5,500 km/h. The first prototype flew in June 1960, and series production lasted from 1960 to 1971. Due to the aircraft's high level of specialization, only 55 examples of this successful, yet highly unusual, helicopter were produced. The Mi-10 was not exported. It was primarily used for military purposes to transport heavy cargo, particularly in Siberia. Mi-10 helicopters symbolically participated in the war in Afghanistan (1979–1989).
