It was the main fighter aircraft of the Polish Air Force between 1933 and 1935.

- During the 1939 campaign, only three squadrons were equipped with PZL P.7a aircraft. 123 Squadron was assigned to the Pursuit Brigade (fighter squadron). Together with four P.11c Squadrons, it fought valiantly in the defence of the Polish capital Warsaw.
- 151 and 162 Squadrons were used to support ground troops on the front lines.
