The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a single-seat fighter aircraft manufactured by US Republic Aviation and the heaviest single-engine fighter of World War II. With over 15,600 machines, the all-metal center wing was the most-built US fighter aircraft of its time alongside the North American P-51.
P-47 pilots complained that the Razorback cockpit restricted rearward visibility. In response to these complaints, Republic incorporated a bubble canopy.
