Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-31 B / BM Foxhound

The MiG-31 "Foxhound" was developed as the successor to the MiG-25 "Foxbat." The prototype Ye-155MP made its maiden flight on September 16, 1975. As the world's heaviest fighter jet, the MiG-31 is significantly heavier than comparable aircraft. At the same time, two powerful D-30 F6 engines and a more robust airframe enabled a top speed of Mach 2.8 at high altitude and Mach 1.23 at low altitude.
The MiG-31B was developed in the 1980s under pressure from Western nations. It can be considered a hybrid of the MiG-31BS, which was based on the MiG-31 without the suffix, and the MiG-31DZ, the testbed for the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) system. However, thanks to new avionics and a modern Weather Control System (WCS), it was significantly more efficient than all other versions.
The latest evolution of the Foxhound is the MiG-31BM, a new multirole version developed from the MiG-31B and MiG-31BS. The program began in 1997. The new MiG-31BM is no longer just an interceptor, but can carry various air-to-ground weapons such as the Kh-25, Kh-29, Kh-31, Kh-59, etc.
