The L-39ZA/ZO/M are all based on the L-39C.
The M type is the improved version of the L-39C, manufactured by Ukraine.
The aircraft has a different engine, the Al-25TLSh.
The L-39ZO is the advanced version of the L-39C for weapons training missions and has a couple more pylons under the wings.
The L-39ZA is the Albatos' training/light ground attack aircraft and features a more stable landing gear, a higher payload (1290 kg total), and, most notably, a mount for a 23 mm GSh-23L twin cannon, mounted in a conformal nacelle beneath the cockpit and capable of holding 150 rounds inside.
