The Messerschmitt Me 509 was a project derived from the Me 309.
The DB 605 engine was relocated behind the cockpit to the center of the fuselage to give the aircraft significantly more stable flight attitudes. The propeller was to be driven by a shaft that ran under the pilot's seat. However, when the Me 309 program was discontinued, this also meant the end of the Me 509.
