The Me 262 "Sturmvogel" was a German fighter aircraft used in World War II.
It was the first jet fighter to see combat in the war.
Development began in 1938, the first flight took place on July 18, 1942, and it first appeared over Europe in 1944. A total of approximately 1,300 Me 262s were built, which shot down 509 Allied aircraft.
The Me 262 family had various roles, including light bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, heavy weapons carrier, and even experimental night fighter. The Me 262A-1a/U4 was armed with a formidable 50 mm cannon and was intended to be the ultimate bomber fighter.
