The Fw 190's outstanding performance soon led to its replacement of the Messerschmitt Bf 109.
The D-12 model was developed concurrently with the D-11. Its armament consisted of a coaxial 30 mm MK 108 cannon and two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannons in each wing. The aircraft was powered by a Jumo 213F engine, the same as that used in the D-11. The prototype reached a top speed of 730 km/h at an altitude of 9,150 m.
