The Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star was America's first successful jet-powered fighter.
With the advent of the MiG-15 with its swept wings, it was soon declared obsolete and replaced in the fighter role by the F-86 Sabre.
F-80C was the USAF designation of the P-80C.
A total of 128 F-80As were converted to the F-80C-11-LO with J-33-A-35 engine and ejection seat; equipped with 980-litre trip tanks, this was the main production version of the P-80.
The Shooting Stars were first used in the Korean War and were among the first aircraft to be used in jet-on-jet combat.
The F-80 flew both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions and won several aerial victories against North Korean Yak-9s and Il-10s.
