The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was designed as a new-generation torpedo bomber.
After the end of the war in 1945, plans were changed, and the Navy adopted the Skyraider as a new fighter-bomber due to its outstanding performance on strike missions.
The A-1J was the final production version.
It was powered by a new R-3350-26WB engine and featured structural improvements to increase wing fatigue resistance.
Several additional antennas were mounted on the fuselage. 72 aircraft were built.
