The Grumman TBF Avenger was an American World War II-era torpedo bomber originally developed for the United States Navy and Marine Corps and eventually used by several air and naval aviation units around the world.
The Avenger entered service in the United States in 1942, and was first used during the Battle of Midway.
Despite losing five of the six Avengers on her debut, she became the most effective and widely deployed torpedo bomber of World War II, credited with sinking the super battleships Yamato and Musashi and sinking 30 submarines.
