The La-11 and the La-9 were essentially identical in shape and fuselage structure. The most significant improvements were increased fuel capacity and the upgrade of the armament to three 23 mm NR-23 cannons.
The La-11 offered the most advanced flight performance of any piston-engine aircraft in the late 1940s. Its first flight took place in May 1947, but due to the introduction of jet fighters, production was limited to a small series and discontinued in 1953.
