The Fw 190 is the main single-seat fighter of the Luftwaffe during World War II, developed under the design philosophy of Dr. Kurt Tank, who said that a fighter should be a warhorse, not a racehorse. Among them, the A-4 type is the completed form of the initial silhouette type before the extension of the engine mount.

Dr. Tank thought that air-cooled engines, which have a large frontal projected area and a lot of air resistance, had the disadvantage of narrowing the diameter of the cowling to the minimum, and mounting an oil cooler and oil tank in front of the engine to reduce the projected area. In addition, the performance of the high-output air-cooled engine was maximized, such as gaining speed with the thrust of a single exhaust pipe.
