The British Type 1942 5-gal Jerry Can was a standardized British fuel can used during World War II with a capacity of approximately 5 imperial gallons (≈ 22.7 liters). It was developed in response to the superiority of the German Wehrmacht's standard jerry can, whose design was adopted and further refined by the Allies. The British Type 1942 was constructed from pressed sheet steel, manufactured in two halves and then welded together, resulting in high stability at a relatively low weight.
