The 2025 Division symbolizes the Bundeswehr's turning point: Starting in 2025, NATO's 10th Armored Division will provide a fully operational combat force – for the first time not merely as a troop contributor, but as a fully equipped large unit. The core of the division is comprised of two German, heavily armored brigades and the Dutch 13th Light Brigade, giving the force a binational focus from the outset. Close cooperation with the Netherlands will be further intensified by a Dutch deputy division commander. The German component of the Franco-German Brigade is also integrated and can provide reinforcements in an emergency.

To ensure operational capability, the division will be staffed on a priority basis and equipped with existing equipment. The goal is cold-start capability: operational readiness without lengthy preparation. Structural adjustments have been underway since 2023, such as the integration of the Dutch brigade and the revision of internal processes to improve interoperability. The division was originally planned for 2027, but the security situation necessitated an early start – now it will become a reality in 2025.
