In Straelen, close to the Dutch border, is the location of Rudi Theunissen's company RT-Diorama. Founded in the year 2006 he produces on 200 m2 as a real specialist in his field dioramas made of high quality model building gypsum and cast ceramics in scale 1/35 and high-quality accessories to enhance landscapes as well as street and building scenes appropriately.
Why the background is an eye-catcher
He had his first experiences in model building, like many others, in his childhood. After he had built various models, he realized that the respective model could be staged much better with an appropriate background or environment. So the first pieces were developed, molded by himself and designed with great attention to details.
As a good basis, Rudi first completed an apprenticeship as a retail salesman and worked there for many years. The hobby of model making continued to inspire him and over the years he developed his own small company: RT-Diorama, which was registered as a business in 2006. Meanwhile the assortment of this company counts more than 500 articles, which are always available.
Who is the creative supporter?
His son, Tom Theunissen, studies industrial product design and is a great support for his father in the company as a creative head. His main activities at RT-Diorama are marketing, concepts/designs and 3D printing. He first makes the concept drawings by hand, then CAD is used to work out the sketch on the PC.
As a practical, time-saving working tool, 3D printing and laser cutting are indispensable here in the production of dioramas. In the case of casting- ceramics, for example, the basic shape can be created with laser cutting for an exact fit, and only the details are added by hand, such as certain structures.
Fantastic detailed small parts by laser cut
What began as a sideline has even become a full-time job for Rudi Theunissen since 2020 due to the steadily growing demand for gypsum and cast ceramic dioramas. The storage capacity has been increased and the stock significantly expanded, so that to the delight of customers, delivery times are now much shorter. A whole 300m of bubble wrap is used monthly to ensure worldwide shipping to dealers like Modellbau-König without breakage.
RT-Diorama also offers fantastic colored prints for example painted church windows, signs, posters are offered, as well as useful small parts, roofs, stables, wheels created by laser cut and 3D printing. Always detailed and made in high quality to delight the modeler.
