Actually an American development, this reconnaissance tank did not see any front-line operations with the U.S. Army, but with the allied British and Americans. Too late for use in North Africa, it was first used in Italy and then also in northwest Europe. The all-wheel-drive, approximately 14-ton vehicle reached a top speed of 89 km/h (55 mph) with its two 97 hp (72 kW) engines. A 37mm cannon was installed in the rotating turret, but there were also versions with a Crusader turret and 6 pounder cannon and also anti-aircraft versions. It was used by many countries from World War II until the 1980s.
