The main innovations in the design of the T-34 were the sloping front armor, which provided better protection against direct hits, and the introduction of wide tracks, which allowed good mobility in all types of terrain, including mud and snow.
The first version of the T-34, armed with a 76mm short barrel gun, immediately gained an advantage over the most common German tanks of the time, such as the Panzer III and Panzer IV.
In 1943, the T-34 was further improved by the introduction of an all-new, larger and better armored turret that could accommodate the powerful 85mm long barrel cannon. Thanks to the new T-34/85, Soviet tank forces were able to effectively counter even the most modern and advanced German tanks such as the Tiger and Panther.
