The SS Division "Frundsberg", only deployed late in the last days of June 1944, fought for over a month in Normandy in sectors around coordinates 112 and 113 near Caen before being thrown further west towards Vire became. The rapid deterioration of the German military situation after the operation at Mortain led to the strategic retreat of the division, which was now forced to fight rearguards. Barenton, Fromentel, Putanges, Trun, Saint-Lambert, Mont-Ormel - all these places meant the end for the units of the "Frundsberg" division, which only just managed to free itself from the Falaise pocket. The retreat became a general retreat by the German army and only a third of the originally engaged troops of the 10th SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg" were able to cross the Seine.
