First flown in 1968, the C-5 Galaxy is a true giant! Until the introduction of the Soviet Antonov An-124, it was the largest aircraft in the world. The giant shoulder wing is a heavy, large-capacity military transport for strategic use. With a maximum range of almost 13,000 kilometers, the air-fuelled machine can be deployed globally and can carry a payload of 130 tons - the transport of battle tanks or helicopters over intercontinental distances is its main task. Since a successor model is not yet in development, the giant is expected to remain in service until 2040.
