British soldiers of the First World War were issued with a service dress of the 1902 pattern and a belt of the 1908 pattern, which was worn over the uniform.
The 1902 pattern eschewed the traditional bright colors and instead chose a khaki hue with low visibility, using thick wool for outer and lower garments.
On the lower legs, infantrymen wore wraparound gaiters and riding pants.
Mk.I helmets were issued from the middle of the conflict.
A variety of firearms were used: The Lee-Enfield rifle was the main weapon, and some soldiers carried wire cutters and even rifle grenades.
